Through metallic parts, such as those found in innerspring mattresses, electric or magnetic fields can form with electronic devices located near the mattress. The conductivity of the metallic parts can cause the voltage of these fields to become effective throughout the entire bed. The mattress then acts like a kind of antenna – this is why it's referred to as the antenna effect. Excessive and prolonged electrical voltages can lead to issues such as insomnia, headaches, tension, and even heart arrhythmias, as the body cannot fully relax during the regenerative phase of sleep.
With a natural latex mattress, such electric fields cannot form, making it not only a comfortable but also a healthy alternative. There are also some bed bases that are metal-free, such as in our Wolkenland sleep system (click here).
