During sleep, we lose up to 0.75 liters of water. This water initially leaves our body as vapor and is absorbed by the materials we are wearing or lying on before it condenses into liquid water on our skin, causing us to wake up drenched in sweat. Natural materials, such as cotton covers that encase the core of a mattress, can absorb the water vapor and slowly release it. This hygroscopic (water-attracting) property is a significant advantage over synthetic materials, especially since wool can absorb up to 33% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp.
Combining a cotton cover with the open-pored structure of a natural latex mattress provides a high degree of breathability, which helps prevent the formation of mold on the mattress and bed frame.
