Caring and concerned parents often assume that babies and small children need to be bedded particularly softly. However, this assumption rests on the fatal misjudgement that a mattress for the smallest people also follows the all-too-simple formula of low weight equals soft sleeping surface.

From an orthopaedic point of view exactly the opposite is true. A baby still has a very soft and deformable bone structure. The mattress should therefore give the spine of small children optimal support through its firmness and only slight cushioning. Our 25 years of experience in mattress making and the regular testing of the materials used allow us to offer you a mattress construction suited to children.

Since babies and small children have practically no pronounced body silhouette in their first years of life (shoulders/hips and the S-shape of the spine), the use of an overly adaptable material is simply not necessary. The musculature is not yet sufficiently developed to counteract sinking in too deeply.

Nature offers us an outstandingly suitable material for this in coconut fibre. Coconut is firm and, with its latex coating, only slightly springy. Its resistance makes the inhomogeneous structure of a reinforced side edge unnecessary.

Besides the firm lying properties, which counteract the mis-shaping of the spine in early childhood, the coconut layer of the natural mattress Aman Mini is easy for a baby or small child to breathe through. This is perhaps the most important property of a mattress for small children, particularly once the child starts turning by itself after a few months into the front position babies prefer.

New wool on the surface absorbs any moisture outstandingly well and thus ensures a dry sleeping climate. The baby's small body, which still has little capacity to store heat, is kept pleasantly warm in summer and winter alike without causing a build-up of heat.

Since a baby in particular has a very high need for sleep, it is of course extremely important that the mattress is tested most strictly for harmful substances. Like all our natural and rubber mattresses, the children's mattress Aman Mini is tested and certified by the eco environmental institute with the "ecological product testing" seal. This guarantees that all the ingredients used are harmless.
